Prince - Movie Review

Cast :: Vivek Oberoi, Aruna Shields, Nandana Sen, Niroo Singh, Isaiah, Sanjay Kapoor,Dalip Tahil, Manish Anand, Mayur Puri, Rajesh Khattar, Mohit Chauhan

Hollywood has come up with so many movies on memory loss, while Bollywood too has had its share of films which depicted the protagonist losing his memory, GHAJINI being the most recent example. But what if someone robs your memory? Quite an interesting thought, isn't it?

One of the advantages of having a GenNext director is, he's ready to take risks, ready to tread the untrodden path, ready to go where no one has been before. But there's a disadvantage too: Visuals and technique take precedence, while story takes a backseat. PRINCE has a terrific first half, where technique and content go hand in hand, but technique overpowers the content in its post-interval portions.

What surprises you is that PRINCE is penned by the writer of RACE [Shiraz Ahmed] and like RACE, PRINCE too has several twists and turns every 15 odd minutes. But the twists and turns are a mixed bag here - captivating at times, not captivating at some places. More on that later!

On the brighter side, PRINCE has great stunts and chase sequences [Allan Amin], fantastic visuals of South Africa and of course, a chartbuster musical score [Sachin Gupta]. And these three factors, coupled with Vivek Oberoi's convincing performance, should take the film to safety!

One of the savviest thieves in the world [Vivek Oberoi] commits the biggest heist of his life. He wakes up next the morning to realize he has a gunshot wound on his arm that he doesn't remember getting. In his quest to find answers, he discovers his name is Prince, he used to work for a man named Sarang and his girlfriend's name is Maya.

He is being hunted by the secret service of India, the CBI and the biggest white collared criminals in the world. He is the most wanted man in the country because only he knows the whereabouts of the heist, which contains a secret that is linked not only to his loss of memory, but threatens the future of the human race.

Every day he meets a new girl claiming to be Maya. He doesn't remember where he has hidden the Heist. He has just dive days of his life. Time is running out...

Although PRINCE stands on a novel premise, flashes of the Dev Anand starrer JEWEL THIEF do cross your mind. PRINCE starts off with a heist and soon after, Vivek realises that his memory has been 'erased'. The mystery only deepens when he meets three different women, all posing as Maya and all having a new story to tell. So far, so good!

But the difficult part is to keep the viewer's interest alive till the finale and that's where PRINCE starts crumbling. The second hour - the entire journey of Prince and the real Maya going on a wild chase to trace the coin and also regain Prince's memory - is exciting in bits and spurts.

The concept of erasing a person's memory and then inserting it back with chips and gizmos sounds wow, but the way it has been projected in the film is ludicrous and far from convincing. Ditto for the climax, when Prince traces the villain to the Afghan-Pakistan border. He does so after he had hidden a device in the villain's shoes, while he was being bashed in the earlier sequence. Also, showing Prince having the same qualities as Spiderman [he can cast a web anytime he's in distress] makes you wonder, is he an ordinary mortal or a super human?

Director Kookie Gulati has an eye for visuals and that's evident from the very start of the film itself. The film looks magnificent and wears an international look as well. Shiraz Ahmed's screenplay is watertight in the first hour, but leaves a lot to be desired in the latter portions. Dialogues [Mayur Puri] are well worded. Cinematography [Vishnu Rao] is top notch and the eye-filling locations are a visual treat. Allan Amin's stunts and chases are mesmeric. Sachin Gupta's musical score is trendy and catchy.

Vivek is super in a rather difficult role. He is excellent in dramatic portions especially and carries off the stunts with remarkable ease. Nandana is effective. Neeru doesn't get much scope. Aruna is the best of the lot. Sanjay Kapoor enacts his part well. Dalip Tahil is alright. Isaiah has screen presence and looks ferocious on screen. Rajesh Khattar is hardly there.

On the whole, PRINCE has great music, super stunts, Vivek Oberoi's bravura performance and terrific promotion as its trump card, but where it falters is in its writing. Yet, all said and done, the film has the merits to strike a chord with the youth and lovers of masala movies.

1. O Mere Khuda
This song already became a hit before the official release. Can't decide what is better - Atif Aslam's voice or the music. Atif isn't winning any critic appreciation for his voice quality but this song is a charbusters without doubt.

2. Tere Liye
It isn't fair for any singer when paired with Atif Aslam, so is the case with 'Tere Liye'. Shreya Ghoshal can't match up and its a Atif song all the way. Music is not new but enjoyable.

3. Kaun Hoon Main
A soulful track, the title itself says a lot about its composition. Will leave you in a trance.

4. Aa Bhi Ja Sanam
Few seconds into this song you'll realize the unique way in which Atif have sung this song. Painful, heartwarming experience.

5. Jiyara Jiyara
This simply doesn't work. After listening to such good songs in a long time I felt this is song is misplaced but no, it comes with the album. A semi Punjabi song by Alisha Chinai and raps by Hard Kaur is a no show.

6. Ishq Mein
I am 100% sure that the theme of this song is copied but can't remember the song. If not the voice you will definitely love the music.

Overall Music Review of Prince
This is a complete Atif Aslam album and will cater to his fans only which by no means are small in numbers. His songs tends to be very similar but not in this case, all are very original backed with superb music skills from Sachin Gupta. Also, this could be Sachin Gupta's best work till date. Don't just listen to this album but also feel the emotions.

Vivek: I am not following Aishwarya

kyun-ho-gaya-na-wallpaper1

With Vivek Oberoi turning up uninvited at every occasion where his ex-girlfriend Aishwarya Rai is present, many people have started to believe that he is stalking Aishwarya, however Vivek begs to differ.

Vivek Oberoi was seen getting close to Bachchan parivar at the Police Awards, then he gatecrashed SRK’s party making Bachchan’s uncomfortable and recently at Rann’s premiere he landed uninvited.

Talking about the turn of events, Vivek says, “Suddenly I’m a stalker one day and one day I’m a gatecrasher. Mela laga hua hai kya (Is it a fair of controversies)? Will anybody say anything and walk away? What nonsense is this? It’s very irresponsible and I completely disapprove of it. It’s rubbish. If there was an element of truth in this, I can understand. But this is nonsense.”

“Shah Rukh and Gauri have been exceptionally kind to me, they are lovely people. It’s not like I haven’t been to their place before. I have been to their place for their events, their parties – and suddenly I become a gatecrasher? From where? Does anybody do that? I won’t go to my relatives house without an invite.”

Talking about the Rann premiere fiasco, he says, “Yesterday I came out of the premiere of ‘Rann’ and I was asked a silly question – ‘Why weren’t you sitting in the same auditorium?’. How do I answer that? Do I have to go search for them in each auditorium and then sit accordingly? It’s ridiculous. And if I was inside the same auditorium as theirs, then people would say ‘You’re stalking them’.”

Vivek asks media to mind their own business as Ash is happy in her own life, he says, “They are all happy with their own lives. I am doing great work by god’s grace, my personal life is very happy, I have got a great life and wonderful friends. They (Abhishek and Aishwarya) are married, they are really happy, doing really well and they are wonderful, civil to me as I am to them and there is no problem. It is irritating that people just keep bringing it up.”

Vivek take it easy man!!!

Abhishek and Aishwarya’s ex-Vivek are now friends

abhishek-vivek

Hrithik Roshan’s birthday concluded into the night at SRK’s home Mannat, where he specially invited his friends Abhishek-Aishwarya and Vivek and also made Abhi and Vivek patch up.

A source says, “Shah Rukh certainly did not want any of his guests to feel tense at his home. Besides, he had personally invited Abhishek, Aishwarya, Vivek and many others to Mannat, when they met at Hrithik’s birthday party in Juhu.”

A day before at an awards show, Vivek also talked to Big B and said, “Sir, it has been a long time, aap to aaj kal baat hi nahin karte.”

Looks like Vivek is back into Bachchan parivaar’s good books.

Vivek Oberoi: Aishwarya Rai is a fine lady

img1091222123_1_1_1

Few months back Vivek Oberoi had called Aishwarya Rai a fake and plastic lady, switch over to 2010 and he calls her a fine lady.

When Vivek was asked about his encounter with his ex-girlfriend Aishwarya Rai at the recently held Police Awards, Vivek says, ” Encounters with her do not bother me actually, we are very civil with each other. The whole Bachchan family is gracious, Bachchan saab is an amazing gentleman, Abhishek is just like his father he is lovely very civil and nice.

Aishwarya Rai is a fine lady and I have nothing but respect for her, we greet each other and we are civil with each other and it’s nicer that way. Everybody has moved on.”

Wonder what Aishwarya has to say about this whole encounter.

Check out this dramatic video from a recent award function which shows the expression of Aishwarya Rai when she came face to face with her ex-boyfriend Vivek Oberoi.

Hrithik-Vivek the suit guys

hrithink1

At the recently held Star Gold Sabse Favourite Kaun awards both Hrithik Roshan and Vivek Oberoi wore suits. While Hrithik’s shaggy look didn’t gel well with the suit, Vivek’s shiny suit is making our eyes go blind. Who do you think looks best, or rather should we ask who do you think wears the suit much worst?

Aish's Raavan has connection with Vivek Oberoi

Vikram the south superstar is supposed to make his Bollywood debut with Mani Ratnam’s Raavan. Vikram plays Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s husband in the film. But now much before Raavan’s release, two of Vikram’s Tamil hit films have been dubbed in Hindi.

Aish's Raavan has connection with Vivek Oberoi

While Vikram's Anniyan dubbed as Aparichit came in 2006, last Friday his Dhill was released as Meri Aan-Man in Work. Interestingly, this Meri Aan-Man in Work is the original version of Vivek Oberoi starrer Dum.

Vikram has also won the National Award for the Best Actor for his Tamil film Pithamagan (2003). He had also featured in Tere Naam Tamil original titled Sethu, where he had played the role that was later played by bollywood hunk, Salman Khan.

Many Bollywood filmmakers had been trying to rope in the actor for big projects, but Vikram only wanted to work with Mani Ratnam.

Ironically two of his old Tamil films have now already been released in Hindi through dubbed versions. It is also known that two more of his Tamil films will be dubbed and released in Hindi, as Raavan release nears.

Vivek Oberoi Biography

With his chocolate looks, sturdy body and a killing smile, this Bollywood sensation made waves with his unconventional debut in Ram Gopal Varma’s “Company”. Son of renowned actor Suresh Oberoi, he is the very charming, Vivek Oberoi.

This handsome actor was born on 3rd September, 1976. He went to the Mayo college, Ajmer. He also lived in London to attend an acting workshop and later in New York where he completed his Masters Degree in film acting.

Not many know that Vivek began his career with script writing and dubbing for films when he wrote a script for director Vidhu Vinod Chopra. He also bought his 1st car with the money he earned!

With his 1st release “Complany”, Vivek sprang to stardom. He won the "best debut actor award" and also won the award for "best supporting actor” for the film. Vivek went on winning hearts with the psycho thriller “Road”, “Saathiya” and “Dum”.

Thereafter began an array of films each different from the other in its theme and genre. From the horror struck “Darna Mana Hai” to the man bored of his married life in the comedy “Masti” to the Kesu Firangi in “Omkara”, Vivek has undoubtedly shown that acting runs through his blood.

His latest releases “Shootout at Lokhandwala” and “Fool N Final” have done average business at the box office. While the former is based partly on facts, the latter is a pure work of fiction.

For quite a few months Vivek’s link ups with Bollywood queen Aishwarya Rai, hit high. They were seen working together in the flop flick “Kyun Ho Gaya Na?” along with Amitabh Bachchan. They were often seen together at parties and award functions. But their break up came equally quickly.

Vivek loves watching films. He admits that it is the best way of unwinding for him. Today he has quite a few films in his kitty and he wants to do it one at a time. He is surely a promising actor, who has the ability to surprise one and all with his acting skills.
