No Problem - Movie Review

Cast :: Anil Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, Suniel Shetty, Sushmita Sen, Kangna Ranaut, Paresh Rawal, Neetu Chandra

Take two petty crooks (Sanjay Dutt and Akshaye Khanna), a mean gangster and his moll (Suniel Shetty and Neetu Chandra), a bumbling cop and his schizophrenic wife (Anil Kapoor and Sushmita Sen), a bimbette on the beach (Kangana Ranaut), a bank heist and a puppet in the hands of all these people (Paresh Rawal) and shake them all together in madcap measure...End result: a bunch of clueless people hunting for a cachet of stolen diamonds and relentlessly stepping on each other's toes.

Anees Bazmee is fast donning the mantle of the comedy king in commercial Bollywood. Having delivered big laugh riots like Singh is Kinng, Welcome and No Entry, Bazmee seems to be spinning box office magic in a style reminiscent of David Dhawan's oeuvre during the 1990s. There's a similar incoherence and a method in his madness as he spins implausible yarns that have just one objective. They want to tickle your funny bone, any which way, even if means throwing reason and logic out of the window. But hey, when did the desi box office ever bother about inanities like sense and sensibility.

So go ahead and have a blast with a film that celebrates chaos and hopes to be the stress buster you have been looking for after a hectic twenty-tenner. And yes, don't forget your crispies because this one's meant to pop the corn with its crazy characters and its cornball humour. Leading the brat pack is Anil Kapoor who tries a desi Pink Panther with his foolish cop act. He may have the responsibility of nabbing all the criminals running around in sylvan South Africa, but rest assured his handcuffs -- meant for the bad guys -- are always going to hang loose on his hips and the bullets in his gun will never meet their target. Small wonder then, H@rdC0re robber Marco (Suniel Shetty) can barely stifle a yawn when the bumbling officer announces his arrival. But his foolishness elicits the best response from his wife, Sushmita Sen, who is torn between loving her husband or killing him for his stupidity. Her murderous bouts are the high point of the film, as are Paresh Rawal's attempts to set things right by setting them all wrong. Both Sanjay Dutt and Akshaye Khanna too seem to get their comic timing right as the goon buddys who are out to make a fast buck. Sadly, Kangana Ranaut's attempts to re-fashion her image from girl interrupted to giggly-headed beauty queen don't seem to have an edge.

The film does seem to be roughly edited in places and could do with some nips and tucks. Even the music (Sajid Wajid, Pritam, Anand Raj Anand) doesn't have the chartbuster flavour of the Singh is Kinng audio track. But rest assured, No Problem will make you forget your problems, provided you are willing to get goofy and give up your quest for meaning in masala.

Problematic climax turns into ‘No Problem’

Anees Bazmee’s movie No Problem is shot elaborately in Durban, Cape Town and Mumbai. Everything was designed meticulously and finalized and executed with a lot of detailing. However, little mishaps cannot be avoided even after giving attention to minutest details.
In the climax scene, the entire cast is supposed to be frantically looking for lost diamonds when a bomb explodes. The explosion is to cause a huge fish tank filled with almost 60,000 litres of water to break! Being a one-shot climax scene, things were expected to go as intended.
But by chance the fish tank exploded with much greater force causing the water to rush out with immense force and flooding the whole set. A lot of equipments including the camera were damaged. Fortunately, the reel was saved and all was restored to normal soon enough. And thus to conclude, the scene was executed superbly! The problem turns into a No Problem!

nil Kapoor, is a prominent Indian film actor and producer. He first won acclaim for his roles in Yash Chopra’s drama Mashaal (1984) and Shekhar Kapur’s sci-fi Mr. India (1987), and won a Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award for his performance in the former.

After a series of successful films, Kapoor earned his first Filmfare Best Actor Award for his performance in N. Chandra’s Tezaab in 1988, and later for Indra Kumar’s Beta in 1992. Since then, he has starred in a number of critical and commercial successes, including Virasat (1997), for which he won the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Performance; Biwi No.1 (1999); Taal (1999), for which he won his second Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award; Pukar (2000), for which he won his first National Film Award for Best Actor; and No Entry (2005). Kapoor has thus established himself as one of the most successful and popular actors of Hindi cinema.

His first role in an international film was as Prem Kumar in Danny Boyle’s Golden Globe and Academy Award winning Slumdog Millionaire (2008), for which Kapoor won the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture and received a nomination for Best Ensemble at the Black Reel Awards of 2008.

Anil Kapoor was born on December 24, 1956, in a chawl in Tilak Nagar, Mumbai, India, to a film producer Surinder Kapoor and Nirmal Kapoor. He attended Our Lady of Perpetual Succour High School, Chembur. Coming from a film-oriented family, Kapoor’s elder brother, Boney Kapoor, is a producer while younger brother Sanjay Kapoor is also a well known Bollywood actor, though not as successful.

In 1984, he married Sunita Kapoor and had two daughters and a son. Kapoor’s elder daughter is the actress Sonam Kapoor. As of 2008, his other daughter, Rhea, is studying in New York while his son Harsh is still in school.

He is the brother-in-law of the actress Sridevi with whom he has starred in many films. Recently he acted in a movie called Slumdog Millionaire which won 8 academy awards.

Kapoor made his Bollywood debut with Umesh Mehra’s Hamare Tumhare (1979) in a supporting role. After a few minor roles in films such as Hum Paanch (1980) and Shakti (1982), he got his first leading role in the 1983 Hindi film, Woh Saat Din. Kapoor later tried acting in Tollywood and Kollywood, and appeared in the Telugu film Vamsa Vriksham and Mani Ratnam’s Kannada debut film Pallavi Anu Pallavi.

Next, followed a critically acclaimed performance in Yash Chopra’s drama Mashaal (1984), for which he won his first Filmfare Award in the Best Supporting Actor category. Going on to deliver commercial success with films like Meri Jung (1985) and Karma (1986), Kapoor won acclaim for his title role in Shekhar Kapur’s sci-fi film Mr. India (1987). The film became one of his biggest box office hits and shot him to superstar status.

In 1988, he was rewarded with his first Filmfare Best Actor Award for his performance in the hit film, Tezaab. The following year he delivered more commercial success with Ram Lakhan, Parinda and Rakhwala. The year 1990, saw him play a dual role, as twin brothers in the successful Kishen Kanhaiya. Anil Kapoor won critical acclaim for his performance in Eeshwar, co-starring Vijaya Shanti. With these successes, Anil Kapoor was widely acknowledged as the industry’s biggest star at the time. This was followed by a critically acclaimed performance as a middle aged man in Yash Chopra’s romantic drama Lamhe. Although the film was a box office failure in India, it proved to be a success overseas.

In 1992, Kapoor received his second Filmfare Best Actor Award for his performance in Indra Kumar’s Beta opposite Madhuri Dixit. In 1993, Boney Kapoor’s much delayed mega-budget Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja was a disaster at box office and damaged Anil Kapoor’s reputation as the industry biggest star at the time. The only major success in these years was Laadla with Sridevi, a film also produced by Boney Kapoor.

After a period of little box office success, he had box office success with films like Judaai (1997), Deewana Mastana (1997), Biwi No.1 (1999), Loafer (1996), Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rehte Hain (1999) and Taal (1999).. He also won critical acclaim for his strong performance in Virasat, a remake of Tamil film in which Kamal Hasan had played Anil Kapoor’s role.

The great showman director Subash Ghai has said in a TV show that Anil Kapoor is the only actor which always give full sactisfaction in his films. They have worked in more than 5 films.

He won his first National Film Award in the Best Actor category for his role in Rajkumar Santoshi’s critically acclaimed Pukar in 2000. Following films from 2001 to 2004 failed to do well but Kapoor won acclaim for his role in the thriller My Wife’s Murder (2005), which he also produced. Anees Bazmee’s super-hit comedy No Entry followed for Kapoor that year. The film became the highest grossing film of the year and Kapoor’s comic-timing was applauded.

Kapoor’s most recent films, Anees Bazmee’s Welcome, which released on December 21, 2007, did very well at the box office. His first 2008 release Abbas Mustan’s thriller Race became a box office hit too. But Vijay Krishna Acharya’s Tashan, which marked Anil’s comeback to Yash Raj Films failed to do well at the box office. His most recent films were his first English-language film Slumdog Millionaire, which released on 12 November 2008, and Yuvvraaj, which released on 21 November 2008. Yuvvraaj, with Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif in the lead roles, has failed to do well at the box office. On the other hand, Slumdog Millionaire has won a number of international awards and received rave reviews from critics across the globe, costing only US $15 million to produce, but pulling in more than $40 million in the first three months of opening. In January 2009, he attended the 66th Golden Globe Awards ceremony along with the team of Slumdog Millionaire, which won four Golden Globe Awards. Kapoor also received a nomination for Best Ensemble at the Black Reel Awards of 2008 and has won the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.

In 2002, Kapoor produced his first film, the comedy Badhaai Ho Badhaai, in which he also starred in, but the film failed to do well. Next followed, the critically acclaimed thriller My Wife’s Murder (2005), which also didn’t do well at the box office. His next produced film, Gandhi, My Father, which focuses on the relationship between Mahatma Gandhi and his son Harilal Gandhi released on August 3, 2007. Despite being acclaimed by critics and audiences, the film failed to do well.

Kapoor is currently producing the film, Shortcut – The Con Is On.

No Problem - Music Review

Cast :: Anil Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, Suniel Shetty, Sushmita Sen, Kangna Ranaut, Paresh Rawal, Neetu Chandra

Honestly, one isn't overtly enthusiastic about checking out what exactly does No Problem have in store. It doesn't boast of a quintessential hero-heroine fare. Also, since it is an Anees Bazmee film, it isn't meant to be relying on music as it's USP as the story telling by itself is expected to bring in the audience. Moreover, the earlier promos of the film haven't quite placed music on the forefront. Add to that the fact that three set of composers - Pritam, Sajid-Wajid and Anand Raaj Anand - come together to get the album in place means one is further apprehensive about what really is in store here.

As it turns out, the opening song No Problem doesn't quite turn out to the best attraction that the title track of a film is supposed to offer. Coming from the same school of music as the title track of Welcome, this one does have a catchy rhythm to it with Wajid, Suzzane Demello, Khurram Iqbal, Bhishak Jyoti, Kamal Khan, Suganda Mishra and Altamash Faridi teaming up behind the mike. However, it somehow ends up being 'heard today, forgotten tomorrow' kind of a track. Yes, if the film ends up doing tremendously well at the box office, this song written by Shabbir Ahmed and put to tune by Sajid-Wajid can expect a decent recall value for it. However, unless that happens, this title track would have to make way for other songs in the album.

The album picks up miraculously with the arrival of 'Shakira', a fun number where the focus is on the leading ladies (Sushmita Sen, Kangna) ending up being far more enticing in their moves when compared to none other than Shakira. While Hard Kaur kick starts the song with her rap, Master Salim and Kalpana come together to get an authentic Punjabi flavour to this Pritam composition, hence making Kumaar written 'Shakira' a definite chartbuster in the making. The song, which also has a 'remix version' for itself has a distinct Pritam stamp to it and makes one wonder that why wasn't this celebration track the first to come on air.

Energy of the album continues to be on a rise with 'Babe Di Kripa' being the next to come. This one is akin to listening to two songs with Kalpana bringing on a Western rendition while new find Vikrant Singh brings on a hardcore Punjabi element. Yet another celebration track written by Kumaar, this one is not just foot tapping but also is noticeable for the way Vikran goes about singing this one. An original voice which is not quite an imitation of any other established singer, Vikrant does quite well in 'Babe Di Kripa' which should work well, especially up North with it's 'remix version' expected to find it's way into the DJ's collection.

Surprisingly, just when No Problem was reaching its peak comes a low in the form of 'We Are Innocent' which turns out to be totally wannabe. In fact after doubly checking the credit details, you are shocked to know that the man at the helm of affairs is none other than Pritam himself. His tune sounds like belonging to the world of late 80s/early 90s when such campus tracks like these were in the vogue. A forgettable track which is sung by Suraj Jagan and written by Kumaar, it tries to be all cool and fun but falls flat.

Thankfully it is the unusual suspect Anand Raj Anand who comes to the rescue with 'Mast Punjabi', third Punjabi based track in a row after 'Shakira' and 'Babe Di Kripa'. Does it work? Oh of course yes, as it turns out to be a highly addictive celebration track that gets hooked on to you in the first listening itself. In fact hearing this song (which comes again in a 'remix' version) makes you believe that Anand Raaj Anand needs inspiration to come up with a song belonging to the chartbuster variety since 'Mast Punjabi' is definitely one instance where he has delivered well. In fact he plays a triple role of a composer, lyricist as well as singer here with company from Sunishi Chauhan.

As stated earlier, there weren't many expectations from the music of No Problem. However, it ends up throwing a pleasant surprise with three of it's songs - 'Shakira', 'Mast Punjabi' and 'Babe Di Kripa' ensuring that there are enough foot tapping elements in the album. All that the makers have to do now is get aggressive on each of these three songs. Moreover, if the film turns out to be a huge success, these songs will have a greater distance to travel for sure.

No Birthday celebrations for Sanju till Amar gets well

Sanjay Dutt will turn 50 but he won’t party or celebrate until Amar Singh is back on his feet after his surgery in Singapore. The star’s friends and staff said that Dutt has been on tenterhooks ever since Amar Singh fell ill.

Sanju

"Sanjay’s biggest blow was when he couldn’t be by Amar Singhji’s side during the surgery in Singapore because a visa was denied. The fact that he isn’t free to be with his loved ones hit Sanjay hard."

Sanjay Dutt flew to Cape Town in a dark mood. Sanjay finished one comedy in Goa and left for another in South Africa. Sanjay Dutt nipped the idea in the bud. When asked about his birthday plans Sanjay Dutt says, “I don’t want to celebrate until Amar Singhji is in hospital. Once he’s back to Mumbai we’ll celebrate my 50th birthday. I’ll just be shooting on my birthday.”

Sanjay’s wife Manyata flew down to be with Sanjay on Monday. Her birthday in Cape Town on July 22 was also a quiet affair. Two of the actor’s best friends Suniel Shetty and Anil Kapoor are also shooting with him in Cape Town.

Anil Kapoor biography

The title “Kapoor” has become synonymous with films as four generations of Kapoors have pursued acting and have become extremely popular. But the Kapoor we are talking about has set himself apart with his acting abilities and a never ending career. Yes he’s none other than the smart Anil Kapoor, one of the highly paid actors of Bollywood today.

Born in Chembur , Maharashtra, Anil celebrates his birthday on Christmas eve every year (24th December). His dad and Prithviraj Kapoor were distant cousins. He has an elder brother, the renowned film maker Boney Kapoor and a younger brother, Sanjay Kapoor. They also have a sister married in Delhi.

Anil began his filmy career with “Woh Saat Din”, alongside Padmini Kolhapure and Naseeruddin Shah. After this, an array of films fell in his lap one after another. From Andar Bahar, Mashaal and Shakti to Karma and Ram Lakhan. Bollywood saw some spectacular performances by Anil. “Mr. India” was a landmark film in Anil’s life which not only got him awards but also worldwide appreciation.

His marriage to designer Sunita Kapoor was another bliss in his successful life. They have three children ; Sonam, Rhea and Harshwardhan. Sunita is responsible for designing Anil’s clothes.

In the 90’s Anil’s career saw greater heights with films like “Viraasat” which got him the Videocon Screen Awards for the best actor in 1997. He even got the Critic’s Award for the same film at the Filmfare Awards.

Anil has been very particular as far as his choice of films is concerned. He preferred doing different kinds of roles to exhibit his acting talents. Thus we saw him as the dutyful son “Raju” in “Beta”, the self confidant reporter “Shivaji Rao” in “Nayak”, the serious “Lucky” in “ Musafir” and the comical husband “Kishen” in “No Entry”. Films like 1942 A Love Story, and Lamhe have also been superhits in their times.

Now aged 48, Anil still rules the hearts of the public. All his films, whether new or old are appreciated by one and all. His latest films include Salam-e-Ishq, a multi starrer emotional love story.

Anil stands out in his films even today. No wonder, then, that he is one of the more wanted artists in the film fraternity.

Abhay Sonam camaraderie

Abhay Deol and Sonam Kapoor are the latest entrants to Bollywood's 'just friends' brigade. The duo have been spotted spending quality time together since quite some time.Sonam was the first one to enter and the last one to leave at Abhay's birthday bash recently.

Apparently, the bash was only for Abhay's friends outside film industry.

It was so that the duo were completely relaxed and did not mind being spotted together. Also, Abhay was among one of the few personal guests invited by Sonam at the Delhi-6 premiere.

Abhay and Sonam would also sizzle in Anil Kapoor's production Ayesha, based on Jane Austen's novel Emma. Hope that's not a silly publicity stunt!

Sonam Kapoor learning acting

An actor par-excellence Anil Kapoor is not really happy about this decision but his daughter Sonam is not paying heed.

The young lady has enrolled herself into an acting course in New York this summer. Maybe it’s her way of beating the Mumbai heat or taking a break from the offers (or the lack of them) that she has in Bollywood.

Or maybe she’s realised she needs to give a touch-up on her acting skills and is doing the course to enhance them. We don’t know the exact reason but we can tell you it’s going to be a crash course for a couple of months and she will be renting an apartment in Manhattan while she studies.

Her friends who studied with her in Boston will also be staying with her in her pad and while she’s there, they plan to make the most of it.

Anil wanted her to stay in Mumbai and make her presence felt among filmmakers and also sign more projects.

But Sonam would have none of it and has made up her mind.

Take your fathers word Sonam baby...he is experienced isn't he??
