First Look: Shahrukh Khan’s ‘Ra.1′
There is no denying the fact that Shahrukh Khan’s ‘Ra 1’ happens to be one of the most awaited projects in the year 2011. The movie has seen a lot of efforts from Shahrukh Khan who has been missing from the big screens after My Name Is Khan in February last year. Adding to the success quotient of the film is the fact that it is one of this year’s Diwali releases.
Analyst Komal Nahta of Film Information explains, “The film has kept Shah Rukh on his toes. It’s his most ambitious project so far and one of the most expensive films made in Bollywood. Heavy special effects and constant comparison with Robot have heightened expectations.”
Made under the banner of Red Chillies Entertainment, this sci-fi film will present SRK as G. One. Touted to be a superhero fantasy, SRK plays a normal guy living in London with his family. A twist in the plot turns him into a superhero.
The movie has been directed by Anubhav Sinha and produced by SRK himself. Apart from the superstar, the film has Arjun Rampal, Shahana Goswami and Kareena Kapoor.
SRK loyalists changing camps

It has left the collections of 'Three Idiots' far behind. Well, the whole story is that, Salman threw a party on the occasion of Eid and Ganpati Pujan. Dabangg's huge collections at the box office form another reason for the bash. Now the twist in the story is that, everyone was stucked to see the four loyalists of SRK entering the party, they were Ritesh Deshmukh, Chunky Pandey, Nikhil Dwivedi and Sanjay Kapoor.
However, nobody at the party could restrict himself talking about this sudden change of camping as the relations between Shahrukh and Salman are not considered to be very good. It is worthwhile mentioning here that, Salman and SRK appeared together in 'Karan Arjun'. Presently, SRK is looking forward for his upcoming movie 'Ra-One'.
Aamir and SRK enjoyed dinner

Aamir Khan invited Shahrukh, Gauri to a private screening of Peepli Live. After shooting SRK has decided to attend the screening with Gauri Khan and then they went for dinner. All of them enjoying each other company and they had a gala time with each other.

Sallu and SRK at IIFA 2010

Before this it was a news that Sharukh Khan will not attend IIFA Awards because he had a cold war with the brand ambassador of IIFA Amitabh Bachchan, but after that organizers has confirmed that Shahrukh Khan is going to perform and fire the stage with his blasting performance.
Shahrukh will be the captain of the team and Salman will play under him. Other celebrities will also be a part of it Sanjay Dutt, Bipasha Basu. Let’s hope for the good relationship between Salman Khan and Sharukh Khan.
My Name Is Khan - Movie Review

MY NAME IS KHAN makes two strong statements...
The first: B.C. (before Christ) and A.D. (after death) are designations used to label years in the Julian and Gregorian calendars. There's a third designation now - 9/11. Post September 11, the world stands divided. Terrorist outfits continue to strike in the name of religion and the common man, not even remotely associated with these groups, is bearing the brunt. The world is not a safe place anymore.
The second statement: There're two sets of people in this world - the good and the bad. No matter how strong the evil forces are, good always triumphs.
MY NAME IS KHAN mirrors the era we live in. Not a day goes by when you haven't heard/read/watched news of terror attacks and innocents being killed. We live in turbulent times. Also, the movie states - and states very strongly, without mincing words - Not all Muslims are terrorists.
Karan Johar's cinema got more real from KABHI ALVIDA NAA KEHNA onwards. In MY NAME IS KHAN, the storyteller attempts to make a social statement and succeeds completely. At the same time, it takes no sides. If the protagonist says 'My name is Khan and I am not a terrorist', it also exposes those who misadvise the youth with inflammatory and rabble-rousing speeches.
Karan's take on the issue deserves the highest praise, since a subject like this is difficult to attempt. Final word? MY NAME IS KHAN is Karan, SRK and Kajol's best outing to date. Do I need to add anything more?
Rizvan Khan (Shah Rukh Khan)moves to San Francisco and lives with his brother (Jimmy Shergill) and sister-in-law (Sonya Jehan). Rizvan, who has Asperger's syndrome, falls in love with Mandira (Kajol). Despite protests from his brother, they get married and start a small business together. They are happy until September 11, when attitudes towards Muslims undergo a sea-change.
When tragedy strikes, Mandira is devastated and they split. Rizvan is confused and upset that the love of his life has left him. To win her back, he embarks on a touching and inspiring journey across America.
Let me alert you. The story unfolds feverishly from the very start itself. So if you miss a scene or two, chances are you would've missed some vital links in the story. The fact is, there's too much happening in the first half. Although the narrative tends to get leisurely-paced at times, the wheels continue to move from one episode to another.
A number of sequences are endearing. For instance, the romance between SRK and Kajol is subtle, yet charming. But it's SRK's relationship with Kajol and their kid that's one of the best parts of the movie. Your heart bleeds when an accident occurs and their lives are torn apart. Kajol's outburst - first, when her son meets with a catastrophe and second, when she confronts SRK - are truly shattering.
MY NAME IS KHAN's strength lies in the fact that you root for Khan all through. At the same time, you are weighed down when he's in a vulnerable situation, especially when he's labelled a terrorist and thrown behind bars. You don't realize it, but the fact is that you, as a spectator, have already got entwined in Rizvan and Mandira's lives.
There's a slight hitch in the second hour, when SRK returns to Georgia to save a hurricane-ravaged hamlet. Also, the media exercise tends to add to the length of the film. Nonetheless, it's a minor hiccup that doesn't rob the film of its punch.
There's just one word to illustrate Karan's direction - exemplary. One of the finest storytellers of our generation, he deserves brownie points for deviating from 'Karan Johar brand of cinema' and attempting a film that knocks on your heart and stimulates your mind. With MY NAME IS KHAN, Karan takes rapid strides as a storyteller.
Shibani Bathija's screenplay is truly arresting. Shibani and Niranjan Iyengar's dialogues are noteworthy and at times, applaud-worthy. Ravi K. Chandran's cinematography is awe-inspiring. Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy's music gels well with the nature of the film.
When a film stars two of the finest talents of the country, you expect nothing but the best. SRK, well, how does one describe his performance? To state that this is his best work so far would be cutting short the praise he truly deserves. In fact, no amount of praise can do sufficient justice to his portrayal of Rizvan Khan , who has Asperger's syndrome. His latest work is several notches above anything he has done before. The only compliment that I can think of is, SRK has a new screen-name now. Raj is passe, Rizvan it is.
Kajol is pure dynamite and casting her for this character was the most appropriate decision. No other actress could've matched SRK in histrionics the way Kajol has. In fact, SRK and Kajol compliment each other wonderfully well and this film only proves it yet again. It's a powerhouse performance from this supremely talented actress.
The film boasts of a number of capable actors, but the ones who leave a rock-solid impact are - in this order - Zarina Wahab, Sonya Jehan, Jimmy Shergill, Arjun Mathur, Parvin Dabas and Arif Zakaria. Sugandha Garg is confident. Navneet Nishan supports well. Vinay Pathak leaves a mark in a brief role. Tanay Chheda (young SRK) and Yuvaan Makaar (SRK and Kajol's son Sameer) are excellent. The American actors, especially the kid who plays Sameer's friend, deserves mention.
On the whole, MY NAME IS KHAN is a fascinating love story, has an angle of religion and a world-shaking incident as a backdrop. It not only entertains, but also mesmerises, enthrals and captivates the viewer in those 2.40 hours. At the same time, a film like MY NAME IS KHAN is sure to have a far-reaching influence due to its noble theme. I strongly advocate, don't miss this one!

Shahrukh Khan Profile
SRK offers a role to Aishwarya in Ra1
Shahrukh seems to be mending his ways with a lot of people he was once against. He has apparently patched up differences with the Bachchans and particularly Aishwarya Rai Bachchan whom he has offered a special appearance in his upcoming sci fi venture Ra1.
SRK and Aishwarya had drifted apart professionally after Aish's then boyfriend Salman Khan interuppted the shoot of the film Chalte Chalte as a result of which,Aishwarya was replaced with Rani Mukherjee. But at Hrithik Roshan's birthday bash,SRK took the initiative of talking to both Aishwarya and Abhishek and offered Bachchan bahu a cameo in his next flick.Abhishek, too agreed to SRK's proposal and encouraged dear wife to go ahead with it.
Rumours are that Shahrukh is making friends and burrying the hatchet with all his earlier enemies ever since the two Khans-Aamir and Salman have become close friends.
Dulha Mil Gaya - Movie Review

DULHA MIL GAYA is a mix of films. Like they say in filmi lingo, it's old wine in new bottle. So what? How different can a love story be, since this genre has been done to death in Bollywood? Point noted, but the narrative ought to be engaging if it has to strike a chord and that's where DULHA MIL GAYA falters.
Merely assembling A-listers and filming the movie at panoramic locations isn't enough. The film ought to have meat and that's missing here.
Let me elaborate. Debutante director Mudassar Aziz, who has also penned the script, borrows from the past, going for the tried-and-tested stuff, but the narrative, already low on fuel, comes to a grinding halt by the time it reaches its finale.
Donsai [Fardeen Khan], a young commitment-phobic debonair, is petrified with terms like marriage and long-term relationships. Samarpreet [Ishita Sharma] is a quintessential Punjabi girl, for whom relationships are to be cherished.
Shimmer [Sushmita Sen] is a diva from the world of glamour for whom love and relationships aren't important in life as independence and success are. Pawan Raj Gandhi/PRG [Shah Rukh Khan] is a suave multi-millionaire whose heart still remains larger than his bank balance and for whom winning love is the only victory there is.
When paths cross for these four characters, they not only land up influencing each other with their outlook on relationships, but also get influenced themselves and learn a whole new meaning of the term.
Something that got ignited with D.D.L.J. continues to shimmer to this date. Our stories continue to travel from firangi land to the fields of Punjab. DULHA MIL GAYA too does that [initially], beforeMY FAIR LADY and RAB NE BANA DI JODI take over.
To give the credit where it's due, DULHA MIL GAYA has some interesting moments, but the problem is they are few and far between. One expects things to perk up when SRK's character is introduced [in the post-interval portions], but your hopes go crashing as nothing worthy of note occurs.
The writing has gaping flaws, which are difficult to absorb after a point. The girl travels all the way from Punjab to Trinidad and Tobago, but not once do her concerned parents call to enquire how she is. Strangely, even the girl doesn't feel the need to inform them. If that's not enough, Sushmita takes upon herself to tame Fardeen, giving you the impression that she thinks from her heart. But when it comes to her relationship with Shah Rukh, she behaves in a rather odd manner. SRK, on the other hand, seems completely besotted by her, even though she never reciprocates his feelings. Hence, her somersault in the end - just because Ishita has given her some bhashan - doesn't look convincing.
Mudassar Aziz's direction is a shade better than his writing. And that's not saying much. Given the fact that newer stories are being attempted in these fast-changing times and in view of the fact that he had some of the best talents on board, Mudassar should've seized the opportunity and told a refreshingly different and absorbing tale. But he doesn't. Sure, a few sequences are clever and smart, but that's not enough.
The music is of a mixed variety. 'Akela Dil' is groovy, while the title track is strictly okay. Cinematography is appealing.
Sushmita excels in a role that demands her to be hoity-toity. She enacts her part effortlessly. One wishes to see her more often on the big screen! Fardeen does a good job, especially towards the end when he's about to confess something vital to Ishita. Ishita delivers a sincere performance. It's a pity that a superstar like Shah Rukh is terribly wasted in an inconsequential role. It may not go down well with his fans.
Mohit Chadha has screen presence, but gets no scope. Johny Lever is wasted. Ditto for Tara Sharma. Suchitra Pillai and Howard Rosemeyer are passable. Parikshit Sahni, Bina Kak and Viveck Vaswani are as usual.

My Name Is Khan - Music Review

Sufi being the flavor of most Muslim centric movies Dharma Productions My Name is Khan - a movie based on Muslims in the US sticks to it. The lyrics, vocals and the music blend perfectly to give some good Sufi tunes and with Sufi tunes you seldom go wrong with the listener. SEL do throw in some well disguised rock elements throughout, hence making their presence go unnoticed.
My Name Is Khan is Karan Johar’s latest flick starring Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol. With this movie Karan Johar has bought back one of the most favorite on-screen Bollywood couples, of course King Khan and Kajol. My Name Is Khan has already made it to the news with it’s expensive worldwide rights being sold for a whopping amount. The music for My Name Is Khan has been composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, another Karan Johar favorite since Kal Ho Na Ho I believe. The My Name Is Khan promo was aired simultaneously on all Star network channels across the nation. The film is set to release worldwide come February 2010. For now let’s take a look at how the film’s soundtrack sounds like.
All Karan Johar movies have a special something in their soundtracks. Karan, I believe, understands how important a Bollywood soundtrack is and each time he personally makes sure there’s something in it for the millions of Bollywood lovers out there. In Bollywood if you’ll watch a movie or not, a lot of that also depends on how the particular movie’s soundtrack turns out. There have been times when simply good music took me to a theater to watch a crappy movie. Then there have been times when I made myself skip a movie due to a poor soundtrack. Does My Name Is Khan live up to the hype?
Sajda
The soundtrack begins with Sajda featuring Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Richa Sharma and Shakar Mahadevan. Now those are three very powerful names on a song’s credit listing. Sajda has a qawali feel to it. The music has Shankar Ehsaan Loy written all over it. It’s simple yet effective. And so are the lyrics. A pretty decent enough start to My Name Is Khan’s soundtrack. Rahat Fateh Ali Khan makes it all worthwhile for me!
Noor-E-Khuda
The second song Noor-E-Khuda has been sung by Shankar Mahadevan, Adnan Sami and Shreya Goshal. They’ve got some good money spent on good singers. Karan Johar knows how important a Bollywood soundtrack is. Noor-E-Khuda is a slow, serious track with a motivational touch to it. I can almost imagine Shah Rukh crying all over the screen on this track. Eeew! Another decent enough track, you’ll love it the second time you listen to it.
Tere Naina
Just when I thought they were done with the big names, here comes Shafqat Amanat Ali with Tere Naina. Tere Naina is a soft romantic song that might be pictured on Shah Rukh and Kajol. A lot of their fans are really looking forward to it. Tere Naina’s got that qawali touch to it as well. The music is simple again and so are the lyrics. Right from the first track I can make out the extensive use of the tabla, claps and harmonium. This one passes the test as well!
Allah Hi Rahem
Allah Hi Rahem has been sung by Rashid Khan. Ustad Rashid Khan you mean? Well well well! My Name Is Khan’s soundtrack is gotta be a special one. Nothing commercial in it as yet. Zilch! Don’t look for a It’s Time to Disco here, Shankar Ehsaan Loy have dedicated the music right to the film’s core values and topics. Allah Hi Rahem touches your heart in a way. It’s a brilliant sufi track.
Khan Theme
Oh well it’s a theme what can I say? *giggling*
Rang De
Oh wait! Here’s a commercial track. Rang De, sung by Shankar Mahadevan, is the only track on the heavier side of commercialism. Rang De is a song that asks for peace all over. I however feel it’s a pretty ordinary track. The only loose string in the entire My Name Is Khan soundtrack. The track may appeal to a few of you but I think after such a good soundtrack this is just not acceptable.

Aamir-SRK war continues
And just when we thought all izz well between the two khans Aamir and Shahrukh, we hear Aamir clearing the clouds of misconceptions!
Aamir told the media that he did not apologize to SRK but his kids who must have felt bad with their dad's name being given to Aamir's dog.
Aamir told this with a very matter of the fact attitude. Read more about Aamir Khan's horoscope.
It seems Aamir Khan haven't forgotten SRK for the incalculable digs that he has had at him earlier. The war between the Kings continues.
Dulha Mil Gaya - Music Review

This one is a voluminous album and the first track to come is 'Akela Dil' that has a groove similar to that of 'Gela Gela Dil Gela Gela' (Aitraaz). An unmistakable calypso rhythm is on the fore front here too, given the fact that the film is set in the Caribbean. Adnan Sami gets into an intoxicated and relaxed mood as per the demand of the situation and gets his own lazy style in place to sing 'Akela Dil' that has Anushka Manchanda giving able support. This is a kind of track that should add on to the visual appeal of the film. It's 'remix version' adds on the zing and should find a place in the clubs and discotheques.
Shiri farhad tu meri shiri is sung by the energetic Neeraj Shridhar but even he cannot salvage this banal song. Next, please!
Dilrubaon ke jalwe is a qawalli and an attempt to recreate SRK and Sush’s chemistry from Tumse milke from Main Hoon Na. You don’t want to stick around till it is over.
1. Akela Dil
2. Aaja Aaja Mera Ranjhna
3. Magar Meri Jaan
4. Tu Jo Jaan Le
5. Rang Diya Dil
6. Dulha Mil Gaya
Daler Mehndi is back with another super hit. Lyrics seems to be out, straight from his heart. Total dance party track.
7. Dilrubaon Ke Jalwe
The effort that went to this song is tremendous. All thanks to lyrics writer and singers for giving us a classic qawwali themed song.
8. Shiri Farhad Tu Meri Shiri
Not want to criticize this song about being another duplicate. But the resemblance cannot be ignored.
Remixes
Out of the 3 Remixes only the ‘Dilrubaon Ke Jalwe’ looks genuinely worked upon. Rest are just fast paced songs with non matching music.

Big B invites SRK and Aamir at Premiere of Paa

The Bachchans have decided to screen their special film "Paa" in a special way. Premiere of the show will be held in a children's nursery. However the plan to have Big B dress up in his character Arro has been scrapped as the director felt it was unnecessary to call the make up artist all the way from LA to India. Moreover he didn't want the attention of the movie to be shifted to Amitabh Bachchan.
Amitabh Bachchan has personally invited the two Khans of the industry- SRK and Aamir Khan for the premiere and has confirmed the news of their appearance at the event, himself in his blog.Big B has called Aamir to discuss with him both the movies-Paa and 3 Idiots. Seems like Big B and Aamir have joined the mutual admiration club.Aamir Khan openly promoted Paa. The star went on to say that Paa was a unique and different concept and that the promos caught his attention. He was also amazed with work done on Amitabh Bachchan's character."The audiences today believe in unique and intellectual cinema, and I know Paa will cater to their needs.” he concluded. On the other hand Shahrukh khan did not praised the movie openly
Paa directed by Balki tells the story of a 12 year old Auro played by Amitabh Bachchan who suffers from a rare genetic disorder Progeria. Abhishek Bachchan and Vidya Balan play the role of Auro's parents. What is interesting is the role reversal of the real life father son duo in the movie. The movie is the second production of Big B's home production house ABCL.
ShahRukh Khan honored with the 5th degree black belt of Taekwando
An elated SRK said that he felt like a tough guy despite doing mostly romantic films in his two-decade-old career but he has no plans to switch to the action genre and will stick to his lover-boy image.
“I am just recovering from my shoulder injury and
will take another two months to be fully fit. I plan to stick to romance and utilise both my hands perfectly first,” he said.
“My son Aryan is very angry with me. He has been practicing Taekwondo and will take another two years to earn this title,” joked Shah Rukh.
Meanwhile, on the other front Shah Rukh Khan walked the ramo with wife Gauri to showcase creations by designers Karan Johar and Varun Bhal on the final day of the HDIL India Couture Week in Mumbai.
SRK in Hollywood's Xtrme City
Image via Wikipedia
According to the sources Paul Schrader, who has done films like Taxi Driver and American Gigolo, has tied up with Anubhav Sinha and Mushtaq Shiekh to make a USD10 million-budgeted film titled Xtrme City, which is based on Mumbai underworld.
Mushtaq Shiekh has convinced Shahrukh Khan to give the nod for the project. Mushtaq had earlier written screenplay for Shahrukh's films like Om Shanti Om and Billu, and is working on Ra 1. Paul Schrader also said that he is looking forward to make a film with Shiekh, which would prove to be meaningful to both Indian and American cultures.
Good Times Ahead for Bollywood
Big budget films like the Warner Bros. co-production "Chandni Chowk To China", "Delhi 6" and the Shahrukh Khan release "Billu" all disappointed this year at the box office. Then, a glut of new films are due out as the 2.3-billion-dollar Bollywood business looks to recover from a multiplex cinema boycott, swine flu fears and a series of expensive flops.
We anticipate "good times" ahead for the industry over the next three months.
The stakes were "extremely high for both producers and distributors as it is the first festive season in several years where over half-a-dozen very big films are scheduled for release.
Producer-director Karan Johar's comedy "Wake Up Sid" kicks off the battle of the blockbusters on October 2, on Diwali weekend itself. "All The Best", a comedy, "Blue", an underwater odyssey and Salman Khan's second "comeback" film, "Main Aur Mrs Khanna" (Me And Mrs Khanna), are out on October 16.
The following week sees the release of Khan's third new film, "London Dreams", and the animation "Aladin", with voices by Dutt and Amitabh Bachchan. Bachchan returns in November with "Paa" (Father), about a boy with a premature ageing condition, going up against "Kurbaan" (Sacrifice), with Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor, "Jail" and "Tum Mile".
Actor-producer-director Aamir Khan comes to end off the year with "3 Idiots" on Christmas Day, December 25. But Diwali regularly sees films compete with one another. "Ultimately, a good film works irrespective of whenever it is released." Hope so!
My show starts with Salman, ends with Shah Rukh: Farah Khan

New Delhi, Bollywood choreographer-director Farah Khan says it was a conscious decision to start her new television chat show with actor Salman Khan and his mother Salma, who has never given an interview before. And interestingly, the “Tere Mere Beach Mein” series ends with none other than Shah Rukh Khan.
“It was a joint decision taken by the channel and me. They felt that the episode turned out to be very candid and since Salman has never come on a chat show before, it could be a nice way to hook on the audience to the show. So we start with Salman and end it with Shah Rukh,” Farah told IANS.
She said it wasn’t difficult at all to convince Salman and his mother to be her first guests on the show that starts Sunday on STAR Plus.
“Salman has never come on a chat show – neither ‘Koffee With Karan’ nor ‘Oye! It’s Friday’ and not even ‘Rendezvous with Simi Garewal’. It’s for the first time he’s come on a chat show. His mother has never in her life come on a TV show or even given a print interview. And I just had to tell them once. It was very easy to convince them to come,” said Farah.
The filmmaker managed to get several celebrities on her debut chat show but couldn’t get her dream guests – former railway minister Lalu Prasad and singer-actor Himesh Reshammiya.
“I really wanted to get Lalu-ji and Himesh together for my show. But he (Lalu) had a cataract operation and so things couldn’t work out. But I really hope these two people come to my show, if I have a second season,” said Farah.
To give her chat show a twist, Farah has a separate theme for each episode. She brought Salman to talk about being a ‘Mamma’s boy’ and Shah Rukh Khan as a henpecked husband. She had Priyanka Chopra talk about her struggle as an actor.
Asked what the theme for the Lalu-Himesh episode would have been, she said: “I wanted to get them in a category of ‘I don’t care people’. And these two people are such that no matter how much people imitate them, ridicule them or mimic them, they just don’t care. They only do their work.”
Other guests on her show will include Hrithik Roshan, Asin Thottumkal, Deepika Padukone, Abhay Deol, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Kareena Kapoor and cricketers Yuvraj Singh and Irfan Pathan.
Shah Rukh’s questioning talk of India Day parade in US

New York, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s questioning at Newark Liberty International Airport by immigration officials was the talk of the annual India Day parade here. The parade is held to celebrate India’s independence.
Even before the 29th parade started at Madison Avenue and 41st Street Sunday, Mehal Kadakia, 26, a business analyst, and two friends had spent the drive to the city discussing whether Khan should have been singled out, New York Times reported Monday.
“In my opinion, they were doing their job,” Kadakia was quoted as saying at a festival next to Madison Square Park after the parade.
“I’m sure as an actor travelling, he has a lot of luggage, and if that seemed suspicious, I’d rather have them check and make sure he’s OK.”
Kadakia observed it’s not as if being stopped at the airport in the post-Sep 11 world is new to anyone.
“I’ve been stopped many times,” he said.
Santripti Vellody, 30, a business development manager for a South Asian satellite television channel, said she was disappointed that one of India’s biggest stars had been subjected to such blatant profiling.
“It’s absolutely disrespectful to him,” she said, “and it’s only based on his religion and last name — he has a Muslim name — and I don’t think that’s right.”
Vellody said that her husband, Mohamed Roshman Manoli, also has a Muslim name and that each of the last four times that they had flown out of John F. Kennedy International Airport, he had been stopped for questioning.
“I never get stopped but I have to wait for him for two hours every single time,” she said. “It’s not random.”
Shah Rukh Khan’s latest film “My Name is Khan” — produced by Shah Rukh and director Karan Johar — is set against the Sep 11, 2001 terror attacks and examines their impact on an Indian Muslim living in the US.
Miki Patel, chairwoman of the culture committee of the Federation of Indian Association that held the parade, said that she learned about Khan’s questioning during a meeting of parade organisers Saturday.
“I personally feel that the rules should apply to each and every one who enters this country — the law is the law,” said Patel, 53, a dance instructor from Edison, New Jersey.
Shah Rukh’s detention has Bollywood shocked, disgusted

New Delhi, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s two-hour detention at Newark airport in the US over his surname had members of the Indian film industry fuming. Karan Johar was “shocked”, actress Priyanka said it was “downright disgraceful” and filmmaker Kabir Khan termed it “harassment”.
The 43-year-old actor was detained while he was on his way to Chicago to attend an event related to India’s Independence Day and was freed only after Indian diplomats intervened.
Here’s what King Khan’s friends and colleagues had to say:
Karan Johar: I am shocked and upset…feeling terrible for Shah Rukh.
Priyanka Chopra: Shocking, disturbing and downright disgraceful. It’s such behaviour that fuels hatred and racism. Shah Rukh Khan is a world figure for god’s sake. Get real!
Kabir Khan: When I heard this news, I was so surprised…it has almost become a routine. If you have a Muslim name you are bound to be questioned. It happened with me thrice in the US. I was stopped by immigration officials for three to five hours… they don’t care whether you are a celebrity or whoever.
But when it comes to Shah Rukh, it doesn’t take more than 20 seconds to figure out who he is any search engine (on the Internet) will give more information on him than Hollywood stars Tom Cruise or Brad Pitt and despite that if it took them two hours to figure out, then its harassment.
Post 9/11 it is prejudice to have a person’s name and religion checked and it is very discouraging as well.
Pritish Nandy: This is the problem with law enforcers worldwide…Truly obnoxious. Cops don’t want to recognise anybody. They love to show their power and authority, especially in the US.
Kunal Kohli: It’s really disgusting. Even if they had done a Google search on their mobiles, they would have seen who he is. What were they checking for two hours on their super computers? To detain him for two hours is ridiculous, disgusting and an insult to us Indians.
Arindam Chaudhari: Shah Rukh has just finished his film “My Name Is Khan” in which his character tries to prove to the Americans that he is not a terrorist. I’m sure he never thought it would happen in real life too…What a shame! It’s shocking and shameful because I am sure Shah Rukh would have had to explain who he is.
It’s Shah Rukh so it’s become big news. But there many who constantly go through this everyday. It’s really sad.
Eesha Koppikhar: I am not sure of the exact events but if he was detained just because he is a Muslim with Khan as a last name, it is very wrong.
