Salman on Koffee With Karan

A hit and hot news moving around in the Bollywood town is that, Salman Khan is going to be a new guest of Karan Johar this time. Yes, the actor has agreed to be a part of Karan's most popular chat show 'Koffee With Karan' which is running successfully in it's fourth season.


This is for the very first time that, Salman would appear on the show. Salman Khan is popularly known as the Macho man of the Bollywood town, he has made special place in the hearts of people. Last year he gave a blockbuster hit 'Dabangg'. The movie broke all the records at the ticket window. 'Dabanng' was his home production and it was produced by his brother Arbaaz Khan. Well, let's come to Karan Johar, the famous director has managed to call Farah Khan on his most popular chat show 'Koffee With Karan-4', the show is hosted by Karan himself . Sources says that, Mr.Perfectionist of the Indian Film Industry, Aamir Khan will be seen with his wife Kiran Rao on this show very soon.

Now, Salman Khan has given his consent to appear on the show. Before Salman was not a good friend of Karan but now it seems that, these celebrities have become buddies. They want a fresh beginning of their relation. Salman has also worked with Karan in the movie 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai', the movie was a block buster hit, it also stars Shahrukh and Kajol. Shahrukh Khan is the Brand Ambassador of Nokia. Well, the internal news is that, Karan also tried to get Aamir and Salman to appear on his show together but things could not move in a desired direction and he failed. Now, let's see what happens next. Whether Karan Johar succeeds in bringing Salman and Aamir on the same platform or not. Let's wait and watch. Presently, Macho man of the Bollywood town, Salman Khan is looking forward for his upcoming projects like 'Body guard' wherein he is sharing the screen space with Kareena Kapoor and 'Dabangg-2' with Sonakshi Sinha and Sonu Sood. KJo bewildered by the offer for ‘Saat Khoon Maaf’

Vishal Bhardwaj offered Bollywood director Karan Johar the role of a sex manic and wife-beater husband of Priyanka Chopra in ‘Saat Khoon Maaf’. KJo was bewildered to get such an offer and said, “From what angle do I look like a wife-beater? And how could I enact a scene making love to Priyanka Chopra! And that too as a sex maniac! There is no way I could do this.”
News has it that KJo was horrified at the character he was offered to play, but his horror did not stop Irrfan Khan from playing that role! It is believed that had Karan been a part of the film, it would have been the most unusual casting.
Vishal Bhardwaj did not talk to Karan directly but sent feelers through Piggie Chops. According to sources “Vishal requested his heroine to put in a word. She promptly did. As soon as Karan heard about the casting offer, he was mighty amused initially. But then wondered how on earth he could essay a wife beater!”

Armaan Jain, another Kapoor Kid stepping into Bollywood

After Ranbir Kapoor, the shy guy of Bollywood, Armaan Jain is all set to make his debut in the Bollywood town. He is a younger son of Reema Jain (Raj Kapoor's daughter), the 19-year-old is looking forward to make his career in acting. He has dropped out of college in England to pursue acting.

Moreover, Armaan is going to join an acting school to learn the basics of acting.
Armaan has also assisted Karan Johar on 'My Name Is Khan'. Kapoor boy adds that, he has learned so much working with 'Karan Johar'. He has also done an acting course from 'Anupam Kher's acting School. Armaan further says that, his grandfather (Raj Kapoor) was a showman and he is his role model in the family. He didn't see his grandfather's movies the only way he can get to know him is only through his flicks.

Well, Armaan is very close to his cousin Ranbir Kapoor but he hardly gets enough time to spend with Kareena. It is worthwhile mentioning here that, Ranbir is a proud son of Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Kapoor(Singh). His recent release 'Rajneeti' was a blockbuster hit! Aramaan's cousin Kareena is a proud daughter of Randhir Kapoor and Babita having an elder sister Karisma(who is an Indian Film Actress).

Shahid and Karan friends again?

The buzz is that Karan Johar and Shahid Kapoor are friends again! Now if you are saying that you do not know about the past relationship of both of them then just read below to make yourself clear. Karan Johar has got an image of an agony aunt since he patched up the relationship of some stars like Kareena Kapoor and Abhishek Bachchan.

Later he helped Aishwarya Rai and Shah Rukh Khan in mending their relationships. Both Aish and SRK went through a fall out when the shoot of Chalte Chalte was going on. Bollywood famous filmmaker Karan Johar is facing tough time, when actor Hrithik Roshan said Pappu to Karan Johar on social networking site Twitter. This is what Hrithik calls Karan as his nickname.

Shahid Vidya clash

There are number of movies lined up for release for January with big competition since Karan Johar announced 12th January as the release date of Shahrukh Khan starrer flick My Name Is Khan.




Chance Pe Dance and Ishqiya are lined up to hit the silver screens on 15th January. Both of these films belongs to Shahid Kapoor and Vidya Balan respectively, both of whom were paired together in Kismat Konnection.

These two films were supposed to be released in 2008 but Shahid Kapur was busy with the shooting of Kaminey and Dil Bole Hadippa and was unable to shoot for the film. On the other side Ishqiya release was kept on hold as the release date of My Name Is Khan was not finalised and last quarter of 2009 saw many releases.

However, 22nd January is set for the release of Rann and Veer. Recent buzz was that Vidya Balan was told that 15th January has been finalised for the release of her film.

Ishqiya is directed by Abhishek Chaubhey and is a co-production of Vishal Bhardwaj and Shemaroo’s Raman Maroo. The film also features Arshad Warsi and the living legend of Bollywood Naseeruddin Shah.

Kurbaan - Movie Review

Cast :: Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Sunil Shetty, Dia Mirza, Om Puri, Kirron Kher.

Post 9/11, there's anger, distrust, suspicion, discomfort all around. Not a day passes when you don't hear of terrorists killing civilians in the name of religion.

Many storytellers have, in the past, narrated stories about terrorists and their evil and wicked plans. But let me state one thing categorically. You haven't watched a more profound, a more thought-provoking, a more dramatic story on this subject before KURBAAN. It's not just the most powerful film to come out of Dharma Productions, it's the most powerful film to come out of the Hindi film industry this year, thus far.

KURBAAN tries to penetrate into the psyche of not just the terrorist, but also someone who has been a helpless spectator all this while. This film is sure to spark off discussions and debates, although it must also be noted that it doesn't take sides or gets preachy.

Rensil D'Silva has chosen a burning issue for his directorial debut, which is a complete departure from Karan Johar's earlier films. For some inexplicable reasons, parallels are being drawn with FANAA and NEW YORK , but the fact remains that barring the backdrop of terrorism, there's no similarity with those films.

One often felt that certain films are beyond box-office. Movies are not meant to merely entertain, but enlighten and educate as well. They need to prick your conscience and in the process, make an attempt to make this world a better place. KURBAAN does just that and for this very reason, it deserves a double thumbs up.

Final word? Drop everything else you're doing to watch KURBAAN. Movies like these need to be made, encouraged and lauded.

Avantika (Kareena Kapoor) is a teacher at a university in Delhi. She has come back from New York where she teaches, because her father (Aakash Khurana) has suffered a heart attack. During this period, she meets a Professor called Ehsaan Khan (Saif Ali Khan). Soon, they begin seeing each other and love blossoms.

A few months later, Avantika receives a call from her university in New York, asking her to come back. Avantika breaks the news to Ehsaan. He, in turn, tells her he doesn't mind coming to the States with her. But first they need to get married.

Soon after the marriage, they leave to start a new life in New York. They buy a house in an Indian neighbourhood and move in. Just as they are setting up home, their conservative Muslim neighbours invite them over for dinner. The next morning, Salma (Nauheed Cyrusi), one of the women Avantika met the night before at the dinner, visits her under the pretext of gifting her sweets.

When Avantika invites her in, Salma tells her that she is in grave danger. Nothing is what it seems. Salma pleads with Avantika to help her. What follows next is a series of incidents that sucks Avantika into a vortex of danger and intrigue. As her life spirals out of control, Avantika realizes that she is a pawn in a huge game.

KURBAAN has two stories running concurrently - the love story between Saif and Kareena and the story of Islamic terrorists. Rensil sets the stage in the initial 15 minutes itself, after which there's a twist in the tale every 15-20 minutes, which catches you completely unaware. Rensil doesn't borrow from the past, which makes the proceedings thoroughly captivating.

The highpoint is the 35-minute climax, which leaves you spellbound. The culmination to the story shakes you completely, largely because it's pragmatic and has been executed most logically as well. In fact, filming the climax at the various underground tube stations must've been the toughest challenge for the director.

On the flip side, KURBAAN caters more to the intelligentsia or the thinking viewer and might not be lapped up whole-heartedly by those who survive on the staple diet of masala fares.

Some of the finest technicians in the business are associated with KURBAAN. Hemant Chaturvedi's cinematography is super. The film bears an international look all through. Salim-Sulaiman's music is well integrated in the narrative. At least two tracks merit a mention - 'Shukran Allah' and 'Ali Maula'. Anurag Kashyap and Niranjan Iyengar's dialogue are superb. The lines enhance the impact of several sequences. Thrills are, again, in sync with the mood of the film.

KURBAAN is embellished with superlative performances. Saif is extra-ordinary in a role that only proves his versatility once again. If he won your heart with a winning performance in LOVE AAJ KAL a few months ago, you need to watch this supremely talented actor underplay his part so beautifully in KURBAAN. As for Kareena, KURBAAN reiterates one fact yet again: She's the best in the business. No two opinions on that! Watch her get those emotional sequences right, it's incredible. Here's a performance that truly merits the highest praise and admiration, besides fetching her awards and accolades.

Vivek Oberoi is fantastic. Matching Saif and Kareena at every step, KURBAAN should be the turning point in Vivek's career. It's a difficult role to portray and only an actor with a wide range could've portrayed this part so effectively. Om Puri is top notch and so is Kirron Kher. Kirron is marvellous, especially in the penultimate scene. Dia Mirza, Nauheed Cyrusi and Kulbhushan Kharbanda lend credibility to their brief roles.

On the whole, KURBAAN is the most powerful film to come out of the Hindi film industry in 2009, so far. The film has a captivating plot, gripping screenplay, super performances and a climax that shakes you up completely. Watching this movie should be on top of your agenda this week.

Kurbaan - Music Review

Cast :: Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Sunil Shetty, Dia Mirza, Om Puri, Kirron Kher.

The music of Dharma Productions’ latest offering, Kurbaan, based on Jihad is an album to watch out for. The movie has generated quite some buzz off late thanks to a picture of Kareena and Saif.

With Niranjan Iyegar choosing the curve of the alphabets in his way and Salim-Sulaiman providing the notes to his thought-spinners, the result is mesmerizing. The album has some of the best Sufi tracks composed in recent times.

The album which starts on high notes concludes with a disappointing title track. But the remaining 4 tracks are of high caliber. Niranjan Iyengar and Salim-Sulaiman have written/composed the perfect album for a movie like Kurbaan.

Shukran Allah
Song from Sonu Nigam is always a delight. But equal credits to Salim and Shreya Ghosal for their beautiful playback singing. Song moves in a smooth rhythm, you will love the sounds of guitar.

Dua
Sukhwinder Singh and Kailash Kher comes together again after disappointing last effort. But this time it works. The main USP of this song is it's lyrics. Very clear and meaningful.

Ali Maula
Ali Maula picks up a bit slow but turns out to be magnificent song. Backed by powerful music, reckoning song for singer and music composer Salim.

Rasiya
It's more of a theme song for Kurbaan. Again strong music raises the tempo of this song.

Kurbaan Hua
The show stealer for sure. This is a Hindi rock song from talented rock music experts Vishal - Shekhar. This type of songs do tend to sound similar but it has unique touch comparable to no other song.

Ali Maula - Remix
This was not required, music is too loud and suppress the singers voice. Remix of Kurbaan Hua would have been better.

Deepika surprised Ranbir Kapoor

Actress Deepika Padukone surprised Ranbir Kapoor by throwing a party on his birthday on Sunday night. Deepika also gifted him a sleek and high-end laptop.




Deepika took Ranbir to a restaurant for dinner on his birthday. It is said that Ranbir Kapoor was thrilled to see his old friends at the surprise party.

It is also said that Ranbir watched the first trial of his film Wake Up Sid with Deepika and his parents on his birthday. Wake Up Sid which is produced by Karan Johar and directed by Ayan Mukerjee is set for release this Friday, 2nd October.

Good Times Ahead for Bollywood

The Hindu festival of lights, Diwali, on October 17 is seen as a banker for Bollywood as holiday time begets a lot of entertainment demand.




Big budget films like the Warner Bros. co-production "Chandni Chowk To China", "Delhi 6" and the Shahrukh Khan release "Billu" all disappointed this year at the box office. Then, a glut of new films are due out as the 2.3-billion-dollar Bollywood business looks to recover from a multiplex cinema boycott, swine flu fears and a series of expensive flops.

We anticipate "good times" ahead for the industry over the next three months.

The stakes were "extremely high for both producers and distributors as it is the first festive season in several years where over half-a-dozen very big films are scheduled for release.


Producer-director Karan Johar's comedy "Wake Up Sid" kicks off the battle of the blockbusters on October 2, on Diwali weekend itself. "All The Best", a comedy, "Blue", an underwater odyssey and Salman Khan's second "comeback" film, "Main Aur Mrs Khanna" (Me And Mrs Khanna), are out on October 16.

The following week sees the release of Khan's third new film, "London Dreams", and the animation "Aladin", with voices by Dutt and Amitabh Bachchan. Bachchan returns in November with "Paa" (Father), about a boy with a premature ageing condition, going up against "Kurbaan" (Sacrifice), with Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor, "Jail" and "Tum Mile".

Actor-producer-director Aamir Khan comes to end off the year with "3 Idiots" on Christmas Day, December 25. But Diwali regularly sees films compete with one another. "Ultimately, a good film works irrespective of whenever it is released." Hope so!

No Hrithik or Abhishek yet for ‘Agneepath’ remake: Karan Johar

Mumbai, There have been speculations about who will play the male lead in the remake of the 1990 hit “Agneepath”. While the names of Hrithik Roshan and Abhishek Bachchan popped up, filmmaker Karan Johar clarifies that no one has been finalised to play the part Amitabh Bachchan immortalised in the original.

“I haven’t made any statement whatsoever around the man who would eventually be playing the role of Vijay Dinanath Chauhan that was made
iconic by Mr. Amitabh Bachchan. All I have said is that, yes, we are going ahead with a remake of ‘Agneepath’ and that’s about it,” Johar told IANS.

Whether it is Hrithik, Abhishek or someone else, Johar must be having a wish list?

“Well, the wish list is to get the screenplay right. For the moment nothing else is more important than that,” he said.

Even though the film is being produced under the banner of Dharma Productions, Johar won’t be going behind the camera for the movie.

“True, I would be stepping aside and the film would be directed by Karan Malhotra, who has assisted me on ‘My Name Is Khan’. That’s the only thing which has been finalised… everything else you hear is mere speculation. We will finalise the cast once the script is locked. Currently, it is still in the process of being written,” he added.

Malhotra is not really a novice when it comes to filmmaking. He has earlier worked as an assistant director with Ashutosh Gowariker on “Jodhaa Akbar”, Farah Khan on “Main Hoon Na”, Farhan Akhtar on “Lakshya” and Raj Kumar Santoshi “Lajja and Pukar” amongst others.

Since it is close to two decades since the release of “Agneepath”, would the remake have a different milieu to it?

“Certainly! We are adapting the film from the original, but ours would be a new age version that would fit in well with today’s time. We really hope that we are able to do justice to the original and make the remake exciting for today’s generation,” Johar said.

Dharma Productions, meanwhile, has as many as seven films that are in different stages of production. These are “My Name Is Khan”, “Wake Up Sid”, “Kurbaan”, “Koochie Koochie Hota Hai”, remakes of Hollywood flick “Stepmom” and “Agneepath” and “I Hate Love Stories”.

How is he managing it all?

“Believe me, it’s not difficult at all. All you have to do is to follow a three-point mantra – delegation, outsourcing and trust. Along with that, if you have the right vision and infrastructure in place, which we do have in Dharma Productions, it isn’t difficult to crack it all.

“That’s the way you manage things and I have been fortunate enough to have a team with which it has become possible to helm a number of projects at the same time,” said Johar.

Among the seven films, three are ready to hit the screens.

“‘Wake Up Sid’ is all set to arrive on Oct 2. ‘Kurbaan’ will come in late November. Other than that, we are looking at an early 2010 release for ‘My Name Is Khan’. Yes, these have been busy and really exciting times,” the filmmaker said.

Veer's shooting postponed due to Swine Flu

Bollywood 2010 releasing film Veer's shooting in Pune was cancelled at the last minute because of the wide spread of swine flu in the city. The film stars Salman Khan in the lead role and the film is directed by Anil Sharma.




Even the schedule of Karan Johar's Kurbaan too was postponed because of the rising cases of flu in the city.

Producer Vijay Galani is now looking for a similar location in Mumbai for the shooting of the film Veer. Director Anil Sharma says, "We decided it is better not to go as our was a big unit and it would attract huge crowds. The Pune administration is busy with the swine flu and it would be unfair for them to look after us too. We didn't want to take an unnecessary risk and have our unit exposed to swine flu. Salman also Wanted [^] it to be cancelled as he said this is the right decision."

Salman Khan is also looking forward for his two more releases for 2009 Wanted which is ready for release on September 18, Main Aur Mrs. Khanna which is releasing on October 16 and London Dreams will be releasing on October 30.

No Diwali for SRK

SRK always has some pleasant memories with Diwali. Most of his biggest hits be it Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Veer Zaara, Mohabbatein and Om Shanti Om have been Diwali releases.




But this Diwali, Shahrukh Khan will not be present on the silver screen. The reason is that My Name Is Khan which was scheduled to release this Diwali has been postponed till next February.

The movie which is a joint venture between Shahrukh Khan's Red Chillies Entertainment and director Karan Johar Dharma Productions. Touted as the biggest movie in his career Shahrukh Khan is in no mood to take any chances. Shahrukh Khan will also share the silver screen with actress Juhi Chawla in his forthcoming film Happy New Year.

There were also rumours that Kajol is creating problem with her dates as she doesn't want to be away from her daughter for too long. Well SRK's fans will surely have a dull Diwali this year.

Karan:Keep gossip away…

Guess whom we spotted at a restaurant recently? None other than KARAN JOHAR with SAIF ALI KHAN, ARJUN RAMPAL, BIPASHA BASU and others. And while they were busy talking, KJo noticed that a table close by was being given away.

So he quizzed the manager about this. Now, we’ve heard that Karan likes his privacy and prefers to have empty tables around him at such places. After all, he wants to keep gossip at bay,na?
